Food and wine are part of this region and offer much to be discovered. The region also has many recreational activities with the Futuroscope Park in Poitiers and the zooparc de Beauval.

The Loire Castles

The fight for domination of Touraine between the House of Blois and the House of Anjou led to the construction of fortresses and castles by many kings and lords. Most of these gorgeous buildings were remodeled during the French Renaissance, making them famous.

Today, there are nearly 3,000 Loire Castles. These architectural gems, whose stones carry major episodes in the history of France, are mostly concentrated in the Loire Valley, in the towns of Azay-le-Rideau, Ussé, Langeais, Loches, Chinon, Villandry, Saumur.

Sports

The Loire Valley is an immense playground that you can explore during your holiday.
A variety of walking and cycling trails are available. The Loire à vélo, Indre à vélo, Saint-Jacques à vélo and Touraine loops include many marked and secure trails.
Canoeing is also a great way to explore Touraine, paddling down the Loire, Vienne or Indre.
